Winter Hike- This Saturday

We are planning a special activity for this coming Saturday for the cadets. This is part of the cadets mandatory training program. We would like to take the cadets on a hike through the trails around Pippy Park. We will be hiking to a location; building a small fire; having a boil up with military rations; teaching a few survival lessons; and then hiking back. Cadets need to be dropped off at 11:00 am and picked up at 2:00 pm at the very top of Mount Scio Place (SEE ATTACHED MAP).

It is VERY IMPORTANT that cadets dress appropriately for this event. If cadets have snow shoes they are welcome to bring them however this is not a necessity.  It is important that they dress in layers, and bring the appropriate clothing with them.

Here is the kit list for the hike:Cadets need to WEAR the following:

  • Comfortable winter boots / waterproof boots
  • Warm socks
  • Long johns & waterproof pants OR winter snow pants (ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS)
  • Shirts (layer long sleeve, sweater)
  • Winter coat / waterproof insulated coat
  • Winter Toque/Hat
  • Gloves and/or mittens

Cadets need to bring the following in a book bag or hiking bag

  • Spare gloves/mitts
  • Spare mat/toque
  • Spare socks
  • Bottle of Water (filled)
  • Mug (ceramic or insulated)
